'Modern' and 'Man' both words start with a nasal consonant. The former is disyllabic and latter monosyllabic; obviously the former will prove to be stronger than the latter.Consequently man will be the victim of 'modern' because it is tied with time whereas 'man'is a straw in the flow of time river.
Thanks ! That you spare your time for these subtle philosophy gives pleasure to me, and a platform to think in general.
